Støtteerklæring til Black Lives Matter - Support for #BLM

Den 25.mai 2020 ble George Floyd brutalt lynsjet av fire politimenn i Minneapolis, USA. Floyd ble pågrepet for å angivelig ha brukt en falsk 20-dollarseddel, politiet ble ringt og Floyd ble holdt brutalt ned av politimannen Derek Chauvin som satt med kneet mot halsen til Floyd i åtte minutter. I videoer kan man høre hvordan Floyd roper at han ikke får puste, men det blir ignorert av alle fire politimennene. Tilfeldige vitner til drapet ber politiet om å stoppe, uten å bli hørt. Drapet på Floyd føyer seg inn i en tragisk statistikk over politivold og rasistisk motiverte drap på ubevæpnede afroamerikanere.

Drapet har blitt en katalysator for store protester i USA. Samfunnet under kapitalismen er undertrykkende. Rasistisk og strukturell undertrykkelse må aktivt bekjempes. Vi mener at protestene er et utløp for et berettiget raseri over mange år med traumatiserende undertrykking. Vi fordømmer kriminaliseringen og den brutale volden som blir brukt av politiet mot demonstrantene. Dette er en farlig utvikling vi må kjempe mot i alle ledd, over alt. Vi fordømmer også amerikanske myndigheters diskreditering og kriminalisering av antifascistisk aktivisme og antifascistiske bevegelser. Drapet på Eugene Eijke Obiora i 2006 synliggjorde den strukturelle rasismen her i Norge, og vi vil derfor oppfordre alle til å bli aktive antifascister, hvor enn man bor.

I et rasistisk samfunn er det ikke nok å være mot rasisme, vi må alle være aktive antirasister. Rasistisk vold skjer ikke i et vakuum og må bekjempes med aktiv antirasisme. Rødt Oslo skal delta på solidaritetsmarkeringen “We can’t breathe” utenfor den amerikanske ambassaden i Morgedalsvegen 36, fredag 05.06.2020 klokka 16.00. Vi oppfordrer alle til å bli med! Vi vil også oppfordre de som kan til å donere penger til NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc, eller andre aktører som kjemper for å styrke afroamerikaneres posisjon og kampen mot rasisme i USA - gjerne stiftet og styrt av afroamerikanere selv. Dette er tiden for å stille opp, rasismen skal bekjempes over alt, alltid!

A MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY WITH BLACK LIVES MATTER

Rødt Oslo (Red Party Oslo) wishes to express our full support to the protests against structural racism and police brutality in the United States. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter - movement, and all anti-fascists fighting to end racism in the USA, in Norway and in the rest of the world.

The murder of George Floyd sparked massive protests in the USA, expressing the trauma caused by years of oppression and structural racism. We need to understand that the capitalist system is inherently oppressive and that racial oppression needs to be actively fought against. The protests are outlets of a justified rage against a society that allows police brutality and racist murders of African Americans. The fight against systemic structural racism is our collective obligation. We condemn the police brutality and acts of violence against the protesters, this is a criminalization of the right to protest - a right which has proven to be vulnerable in many aspects, a right which we need to defend. We also condemn the attacks on the anti-fascist movement and anti-fascist activity by the american government, and encourage everyone, everywhere to take part in active anti-fascist organization and activity.

In a racist society, it is not enough to simply be against racism, we have all have to be anti-racists. Racial violence does not does not appear in a vacuum, and thereby we all need to take an active part in the fight. Rødt Oslo will be participating in the solidarity event “We can’t breathe” in Oslo, Friday June 5th at 16.00 outside the American embassy. We also urge all to donate to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. or other local organisations working to lift up black communities, end police brutality and create a just future! This is the time to stand in solidarity and fight racism!
